About the event
Joining Jon for this show will be Anna Vogelzang, and this event is proudly presented by Farewell Transmission—Converge Radio 101.9 FM's weekly alt-country & indie folk show.
J.E. SUNDE (Jonathan Edward Sunde), is a songwriter and composer based out of Minneapolis, MN. Jon studied western classical music with a vocal emphasis at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Starting in college, Jon spent ten years making beautifully unusual music with The Daredevil Christopher Wright. He has since released three solo records with his most recent record, “9 Songs About Love,” released in November of 2020. With a love of songwriters and performers like Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone, and Paul Simon, Jon writes densely poetic songs with a bent toward the philosophical. Jon will be releasing his fourth album, “Alice, Gloria and Jon” on June 16, 2023. Lyrically, the songs explore the strange and surprising experience of being an adult over arrangements centered around groove and the combination of synthesizers and acoustic instruments. Recorded in Eau Claire, WI at the Bungaleau by J.E Sunde’s longtime collaborator, Shane Leonard, the two endeavored to create a songwriter record drawing influence from krautrock, JJ Cale, and 80s synth pop. After a flurry of smaller collaborative releases in 2021 that explored a wide range of musical styles, “Alice, Gloria and Jon” will be J.E Sunde’s first full length release since “9 Songs About Love.”
ANNA VOGELZANG believes in the power of songs. Since 2004, the Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist has independently released 7 award-winning albums and toured extensively throughout the US, opening for a wide range of acts from Gillian Welch to Sara Bareilles. Atwood Magazine says her songwriting is “beautifully visceral”, exuding “the kind of storytelling ability passed down through decades of folk tradition – it walks the line between the modern and the nostalgic”. Her voice has been described as “an ethereal, lucid thing” that “nets melodies like it’s catching monarchs”.
Intimate listening venue limited to 45 seats.
